Senior Software Engineer, Platform Delivery

Our vision is to help developers, builders, and creators bring their ideas to life with speed and simplicity, by providing a cloud data platform that makes open-source databases, search, streaming, and application infrastructure easily accessible to everyone.</p> <h3>The Role:</h3> <p>We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer, proficient in Python development, with expertise in API design and refactoring, to join our platform team. As a senior member, you will play a crucial role in transforming leading open-source technologies into seamless cloud services within the Aiven platform. You'll be part of a team working on the Aiven cloud platform, improving its scalability and reliability, and implementing new features to enhance the enterprise experience.</p> <p>There are a range of specializations available across backend systems, distributed infrastructure, and platform security.</p> <h3>What You'll Do:</h3> <ul> <li>Facilitate API design improvements and refactoring efforts to enhance platform functionality and performance.</li> <li>Write high-quality, maintainable code in Python, releasing, and monitoring quality features in production.</li> <li>Perform peer code reviews and actively participate in technical discussions both at the team level and across the broader product development engineering domain.</li> <li>Contribute to technical planning, system architecture, feature design, product roadmaps, and backlog management.</li> <li>Ensure the backend ecosystem maintains strong unit and functional testing coverage.</li> <li>Advocate for continuous improvements to software quality, platform security, and system performance.</li> <li>Mentor junior team members to foster technical growth and engineering best practices.</li> </ul> <h3>What We're Looking For:</h3> <ul> <li><strong>Development Skills:</strong> Excellent software development skills in Python.</li> <li><strong>Cloud Platforms:</strong> Experience interacting directly with one or more cloud provider APIs (AWS, GCP, Azure).</li> <li><strong>Infrastructure & Orchestration:</strong> Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions and container orchestration tools.</li> <li><strong>Networking:</strong> Familiarity with the Linux networking stack.</li> <li><strong>Open-Source Data Services:</strong> Hands-on experience with managed open-source technologies, such as Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, OpenSearch, or ClickHouse.</li> <li><strong>Operating Systems:</strong> Deep hands-on experience using Linux in both development and production environments.</li> <li><strong>Architecture:</strong> Strong foundational knowledge of distributed systems and microservices patterns.</li> <li><strong>Production Operations:</strong> Extensive experience managing, scaling, and operating software in production environments.</li> <li><strong>Security:</strong> Solid understanding of backend software security principles and practices.</li> <li><strong>Testing:</strong> A strong drive and standard for writing robust automated unit and integration tests.</li> <li><strong>Communication:</strong> Fluency in English (written and verbal).</li> </ul> <h3>Nice to Have:</h3> <ul> <li><strong>Secrets & Key Management:</strong> Hands-on experience managing secrets and encryption keys.</li> <li><strong>CI/CD:</strong> Experience
