<p><strong>1 big thing:</strong> Axios Local is hiring reporters and writers near <a href="https://www.axios.com/newsletters">our existing markets</a> in regions across the U.S. to support our growing network of local newsletters.</p> <p><strong>Why it matters: </strong>We’re looking for sharp, fast and curious journalists who can help us deliver smart, essential news and lifestyle coverage that young professionals in our cities care about.</p> <p><strong>Go deeper: </strong>Assignments vary based on market needs, with some opportunities for consistent, ongoing contributions.</p> <p><strong>What you’ll do:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Write high-impact local news items in Axios’ Smart Brevity style (typically short-form, daily pieces)</li> <li>Jump on timely stories, events and trends</li> <li>Contribute to Axios Local newsletters (<a href="https://www.axios.com/newsletters">we're in 39 cities and counting</a>), plus their websites and social media accounts as needed, often with a daily turnaround</li> <li>Collaborate with an editor and/or full-time newsletter author(s)</li> <li>Help fill longer coverage gaps occasionally, (e.g. 1-3 months) as needed</li> </ul> <p><strong>What success looks like:</strong></p> <ul> <li>You deliver clean, accurate, engaging copy on deadline</li> <li>You surface story ideas that resonate with local readers</li> <li>You adapt quickly to feedback and sharpen your work over time</li> </ul> <p><strong>What we’re looking for:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Strong news judgment and clean, concise writing </li> <li>Ability to move quickly and hit deadlines</li> <li>Omnivorous curiosity and enthusiasm for reporting & writing about numerous subject areas, from sports to business to dining to development to how we get around</li> <li>Comfort writing in a conversational, reader-first voice</li> <li>Equally comfortable doing original reporting and smart aggregation</li> <li>Experience with newsletters or audience-focused writing</li> <li>Familiarity with our Smart Brevity style (or willingness to learn fast)</li> <li>Strong communication skills and experience working in a remote environment</li> <li>A self-starter: While you may be assigned some stories, you'll be counted on to bring executable ideas forward every day</li> </ul> <p><strong>Who this is for:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Experienced local reporters and journalists</li> <li>Writers seeking flexible, part-time temporary work</li> <li>Former newsroom reporters or editors looking to stay engaged</li> <li>Strong independent contributors comfortable with remote workflows</li> </ul> <p><strong>Details:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Part-Time employee role </li> <li>Remote, U.S.-based</li> <li>Flexible assignments based on need and availability</li> <li>Up to 29 hours per week, depending on assignments and availability</li> <li>Onboarding, training, and access to Axios tools provided</li> <li>Opportunity to contribute to a growing national network of Axios Local newsletters</li> </ul> <p><em>Starting salary for this role is in the range of $27/hour - $45/hour and the exact rate will be determined by the location of the candidate.</em></p> <p>Axios is committed to embracing artificial intelligence as a core part of how we work.
